Sandra Denise Haney Abernathy was born August 22, 1955 in Warrior, Alabama to the late Samuel Milton and Alice Louise Haney. Growing up in Warrior, AL, Sandra later went on to graduate from Warrior High School, Miles College, and Alabama A&M University. Sandra worked hard to provide for her family, spending most of her days supporting families as a social worker for JCCEO Headstart and other local youth support services. She never met a stranger, and those who had the pleasure of knowing her knew she was a soft armrest for weary souls and a bundle of laughs to brighten any dark day. She was one of the most honest, caring, loyal, and generous people you'd ever meet, often opening her home to anyone in need of a laugh, a meal, or a place to stay. She enjoyed spending time with family, hanging out wherever there was music and food, and supervising the care of her houseplants. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Samuel Milton Haney, Jr. and Lacey Kirk Haney. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: two loving children, son Thomas Jerrell (TJ) Abernathy and daughter Alisan Rose Abernathy; two grandsons, Thomas Abernathy Jr. and Jekobe Abernathy; two granddaughters, Kyla Abernathy and Kimorah Jones; a devoted life partner Felix Randall; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
