Samuel Taylor Obituary

On Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at 3:10 a.m., an angel whispered and said, "Come home and rest my dear child, for your earthly duties are done."Samuel (Ironman)Taylor was born March 12, 1934, the eldest of four children in Logan, West Virginia, to the late Ralph and Awilda Taylor. In 1948, the family relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, and settled in the Airport Hills Community. He was educated in the public school system of Birmingham, Alabama, graduating from Hooper City High School, class of ‘54.He confessed Christ at an early age and, later, joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church Zion City, under the leadership of Reverend Robert Bearden. He met and married the love of his life, Charnetta Harvell, who preceded him in death.Sam worked at Jim Walter Company for over 30 years. He was an avid golf fan and a caddy at Roebuck Golf course for some of Birmingham's well-known golfers. He enjoyed watching Tiger Woods and football. Sam loved to talk about West Virginia and the coal mines. He displayed a tremendous amount of love and compassion for all with whom he came in contact, including his co-workers and peers, and the Hooper City Alumni. Sam never met a stranger; he would often say, "I know you and all your folks."Memories will forever be cherished by: his loving daughters, Yolanda Harvell and Marjorie Harvell of Birmingham, Alabama; one uncle, Herman Grant of Chicago Illinois; two brothers-in-law, Williams Davis of Chicago IL, and Eldridge Harvell of Birmingham, AL; two sisters-in-law, Laura Harvell of Atlanta GA, and Sharon Harvell of Detroit, Michigan; six nieces and nine nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
