Ruby Thelma McDaniel Powe (fondly called "Ruby T" or "Tee") was born December 8, 1924 to the late Henry & Lula McDaniel in Camden, Alabama. She was educated in the Wilcox County and Bessemer School Systems. She confessed Christ at an early age and attended church in Camden, Alabama. On January 3, 1945 she was united in holy matrimony to John Powe and moved to Birmingham, Alabama. Through this union eight children were born. One son, Paul Edward Powe, preceded her in death. In 1952, she became a member of the 17th Street A.O.H. Church of God (A.O.H. Cathedral) under the leadership of the late Bishop Jasper Roby. She was an active member of the church in various capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Willing Worker Club, and Mother's Board. In later years she joined Apostolic Way Church of the True and Living God under the leadership of Bishop Elvis May, whom she loved and respected so much. There she served faithfully as a member and Church Mother until her health failed. She made her eternal transition peacefully in her home surrounded by the love of her family on the Lord's Day, Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 8:25 a.m. Ruby's sweet spirit touched everyone who made her acquaintance. You were not a stranger around her for long. She made everyone feel at ease and at home. Simply put, "To know her was to love her." She thanked everyone personally for any and everything they did for her, including caregivers. Her presence in this life will always be remembered and treasured. She will live on through many generations to come, having been blessed to see her very own fifth generation!
