Mrs. Rosie Ward Brown was born on August 11, 1943 in Faunsdale, Alabama, to the late Sidney and Elizabeth Ward. She was the seventh of fourteen children. She accepted Christ at a young age. As she grew, she became an attentive person who would help anyone in need. Rosie was loving and dedicated to family. She was married to the late Cornelious Brown Jr. They were married on January 17, 1970 and from that union one son was born, Pastor Cornelious Wilson Brown III. She and her husband Cornelious raised their son with patience, discipline and humility. From the beginning, they dedicated their son to God and encouraged him to explore the beauty of the gospels, leading him to become a pastor. She lived a blessed Christian life and served faithfully in her houses of worship as a Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher and Youth Department Director through the years. From an early age, Rosie had a strong desire to pursue excellence. She attended A.H. Parker High School and graduated in 1960. Upon graduation, she attended Alabama A&M University. She graduated with honors and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education. She majored in mathematics and minored in general science. Rosie was our very own "Hidden Figures" family member, she was one of the "Human Computers" at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Rosie was an Inspiration for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) nieces and nephews that came after.In 1978 Rosie received her Master of Education Degree from UAB. While earning her degree she served on the committee that chose "Blazers" as the official Mascot name.Rosie served as a faithful and fierce math teacher for 35 years in the Birmingham City School district. She valued education and poured her very best into each of her students. She was an active member of the Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She devoted her time and passion to mentoring young men helping them reach their full potential.Rosie began her eternal rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Saturday, May 9, 2020. She fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished her course.She was preceded in death by her husband Cornelius Brown Jr., four sisters; Rebecca Ward Fields, Mattie Ward Hunter, Alice Ward Wesley, and Susie Ward Thornton. Lastly, her brother James Ward transitioned to his heavenly home seven days later after Rosie.departed..Rosie Ward Brown's beautiful life will be cherished by, son Cornelious (LaKeisha) Wilson Brown III, eleven grandchildren: DejaNeal Brown, LaNeil Brown, Cornelious Brown IV, Mark Holloway Jr, Jamie Brown, Lance Holloway, Neil Brown, Donovan Holloway and Isaac Holloway; four brothers and 4 sisters: Elizabeth (Isaiah) Peck of Richmond, VA, Sidney Ward Jr. of Birmingham, AL, Frank (Emma) Ward of Richmond, VA, Margaret Jackson of Jasper AL, Lena (Eddie) Smith, of Birmingham, AL, Leon (Orlanda) Ward, of Birmingham, AL. Delois (Michael) Perdue of Birmingham, AL and Samuel (Selena) Ward of Richmond, VA., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
