Roland Hayes Spann, Sr. was born on January 24, 1945 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the
second of four children born to the late Pete and Lula Bell Green Spann.
Roland professed faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and joined St. John Missionary Baptist
Church Pratt City, where he remained a member for his entire life. He served faithfully as a
Deacon and Usher. He attended Effie J. McCaw Elementary and graduated from Western Olin
High School.
Roland retired from Stockham Valves & Fittings after more than thirty years of dedicated
service.
After being united in holy matrimony, this union was blessed with a son, Roland Hayes Spann, Jr.
Throughout his life, Roland committed himself to protecting, providing for and being present with
his loved ones.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Roland H. Spann, Jr. of Huntsville, AL; one brother,
Jerry (Annette) Spann; two grandsons, Roland H. Spann, III and Zion W. Spann; a devoted
niece and nephew, Tracy (Virgil) McAdory; nieces, Alicica Washington and Genee (Arsenio)
Reaves; nephew, Jermaine (Davida) Spann; cousin and caregiver, Audrey Lewis; special
cousin, Alisa Lee; dear friend, Barbara Ann Spann; all of BIrmingham, AL; cherished cousin,
Geraldine Croom of Chicago, IL and a host of other relatives and friends.
