Oscar Jones, son of the late William and Mary Lowe Jones, was born April 15, 1935, in
Birmingham, Alabama. He was the youngest of nine children born to their union. Oscar received
his education in the public schools of Hooper City and remained proud of his roots, actively
participating in the Hooper City High School Alumni Association throughout his life.
Following high school, Oscar worked in various capacities throughout Birmingham before
retiring from Heckett in 1997. Retirement, however, did not slow him down. For the next 25+
years, Oscar became the family's unofficial taxi service, happily chauffeuring his
granddaughters, family members, and friends wherever they needed to go. His punctuality and
willingness to drive across town at a moment's notice became legendary among his loved ones.
He was also known to love the game of golf. Throughout his life, he spent many years playing
and enjoying watching tournaments on television. It was one of his favorite pastimes until the
end of his life.
Oscar peacefully departed on March 19, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy of
service and devotion to his family. He was preceded in death by his eight siblings: brothers
Richard and Curtis, and sisters Annie Mae, Lela, Lola, Rosie, Susie, and Willie Mae.
Oscar leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 34 years, Deborah, of Birmingham,
Alabama; his daughter, Regina Johnson; his son, Bebo Johnson; his granddaughters,
Dominique, Trinity, Shea, Keyana, and Elaina; his grandsons, Kenny, Christian, and Jeremiah;
his great-granddaughters, Ashlee, Kayden, and Zoe; his great-grandson, Zach; and a host of
nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Oscar's spirit, commitment to family, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all
who had the privilege of knowing him.
