Mary Lee (Brown) Baker

Mary Lee (Brown) Baker, 92, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 14 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Mary Lee was born to Edmond and Anna Brown in Awenda, South Carolina, December 25, 1932. Her sister was Marie Brown and her brother was Charles Brown. Growing up, Mary Lee was passionate about education, her family, and living near the beach. She told many stories of catching seafood, eating shrimp, oysters, crab, and anything seafood.... Mary Lee was very kind, generous, and loving towards anyone who knew her. She was fiercely loyal to all and never put herself first. After graduating high school, Mary Lee attended Allen University and taught at Jennie Moore Elementary School in Mount Pleasant South Carolina. Her former students continue to speak of their love for her teaching and the impact she had on their lives. Mary Lee had five children Beatrice Baker, Doris Baker, Linda Baker, Webster Baker and Barbara Baker. She has eight grandchildren, Aviana Baker, Candas Baker, Cantashea Moye, Chris Baker, Eric Baker, Fidel Baker, LaJarrid Baker, and Tiffany Baker. She has eight great grandchildren Chris Baker, CJ Baker, Charis Guyton, Eli Baker, Jacob Baker, Marcelos Baker, Myles Baker, and Vasicana Baker. She is also survived by her best friend Jeanette Singleton and her cousin Benny Glover.
