Marian Harris Obituary

MARAIN WINSTON HARRIS, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday May 21, 2020. She was born on December 2, 1944, in Witchia, Kansas, to Richard and Jimmie Winston. Marian was raised in Birmingham, Alabama (Collegeville), by her grandmother, Alberta Winston, and aunt, Daisy Winston, after her mother passed. She attended Hudson Elementary and A.H. Parker High School, class of 1961. After graduating high school, she attended Miles College. She also attended Bessemer State Technical College, class of 1977, where she received training to become a licensed practical nurse. She worked at Brookwood Medical Center from 1977 to 1986, St. Martin's In The Pines from 1985 to 1987, and 32 years of service at V.A. Medical Center Decatur in Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama, from 1987 to 2020.Marian came to know Christ at an early age while attending Bethel Baptist Church of Collegeville. Her membership was with the Faith Apostolic Church of Birmingham, Alabama, under theleadership of Bishop Michael Binder. She loved the Lord and expressed it through her walk of life. A scripture she often quoted and instilled in her family: Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." She enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to music, reading the bible, and cooking. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, of many years, Willie Grant Harris, and parents, father, Richard James Winston and mother, Jimmie Nadine Winston.Marian is survived by: her brother, Robert Strickland of Dallas, Texas; children, sons, Walter, Tony, James, and Quincy, and daughters, Mia, Terri, Glenita, and Lena; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Her love, touch, smile, and kind words will forever embrace our hearts and minds.
