Lewis Clinton Phillips was born to Lee Frank and Hattie Golson Phillips in Bradford, Alabama on November 7, 1921. The family moved to Fairfield, Alabama. At an early age, he confessed Christ and joined First Baptist Church, Fairfield, Alabama, under the pastorate of the late Dr. E. W. Williams, Sr. He attended Fairfield Industrial High School. He served in the military during World War II, earning the rank of Sergeant. He worked for U.S. Steel for 42 years and UAB for 27 years, he was known as "The Governor." In 1950, he married Doris Walker and to this union two children were born. Mr. Phillips departed this life on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, in Clearwater, Florida. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters: Rayette P. (Daniel) Bouldrick, Palm Harbor, Florida, and Tinne Dansby, Calera, Alabama; one sister, Hattie Phillips Parker, Fairfield, Alabama; five grandchildren: D. L. Bouldrick and Duane Alexander Bouldrick, Atlanta, Georgia, Cynthia Alise Bouldrick, Boston, Massachusetts, Tywanda Nicole Norwood, Calera, Alabama, Orlandrus Norwood, Jr., Birmingham, Alabama; two great-grandchildren: Ariann Jackson and Orlandrus Norwood III; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
