Lester Howard Wallace was born September
25, 1943, to Alberta Pritchett and his birth father was Burton.
He was adopted at the age of six months by his aunt and uncle,
Victoria and James Lewis.
Lester attended Baltimore Public Schools and graduated from
Forest Park High School, 1961. He attended Coppin State
University, graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor in English. In
1976, he continued his education at the University of Alabama
in Birmingham (UAB), and graduated with a Master of Arts in
Special Education. He taught Special Education in the Baltimore
City Schools, 1992-2005. He studied Pastoral Ministry and received
his Doctor of Theology in 2005 from the Family Bible Institute.
Lester accepted Christ at the age of 12 at New Jerusalem Fire
Baptist Church, Baltimore, Maryland. He was called in the
ministry and preached his first sermon at the age of 21. He later
moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where he joined 17th Street/
AOH Cathedral Church of God under the leadership of the late
Bishop Jasper Roby. He met and married (13 years), Mamie V.
Hurst and to this union a daughter and son were born, Twamenia
and Lester, Jr. He served in various capacities in the church,
particularly the church music department as choir director, lead
singer, Sunday School Teacher and he was one of the musicians for
Sunday School. He was a member of the AOH Male Chorus, the
Gospel chorus, The Malindettes, and the AOH Pentecost Choir.
He was an ordained elder in the AOH Church of God and pastored
the former Booker Heights AOH Church of God from June 2014 –
August 2015.
He was most prominent in serving and volunteering in the
community at various organizations:
-Chaplain/Teacher for Brother Bryan
-Senior Companion for Positive Maturity, Inc.
-Clinic Host for 1917 Clinic at UAB
-Chaplain at UAB
-Support Specialist, AIDS of Alabama
-Research Interviewer, UAB School of Nursing
-Associate Social Worker, Bon Secur Health Systems
-Special Educator, Birmingham City Schools
He was preceded in death by his birth and adopted parents and
daughter, Twamenia Wallace Jones.
He leaves to cherish Mamie Wallace (Birmingham, Alabama);
one son, Lester Wallace, Jr. (Baltimore, Maryland); twelve
grandchildren, Joshua Wallace (Columbia, South Carolina),
Genesis, Micah, Jaylan, Brielle, Taylor, Autumn, Brooke, Isaiah,
Shamyra, Iyuana, and Taymar; two great-grandchildren Zaary
(all from Baltimore, Maaryland) and Azalea (Columbia, South
Carolina); a god-daughter, Mekeyshia Purifoy (Birmingham,
Alabama); and a host of nieces and nephews, colleagues, and friends.
