Janie Gragg Smith was born on April 6, 1922. She was the fourth of six children born to Willie and Lucy Gragg. In 1940, she graduated from historic A.H. Parker High School and enrolled at Miles College, where she graduated in 1944.Janie was a life-long educator, serving as a teacher at Councill Elementary School for many years. She also served as a school librarian during her years as an educator. She was a faithful longtime member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an instructor and in the Missionary Society (2nd Vice-President, 2012 - 13). Janie was a proud member of the Excelsior Club of Ensley, and participated in other social organizations. She even had a passion for the golf course.On Saturday, December 18, 2021, our Divine Father decided it was time to let Janie rest and called her home. Janie was 99 years YOUNG! Many of us will forever remember that tender smile.She leaves to cherish her legacy: nieces, Elaine (James), Maxine, and Edith (Eric); nephews, Clifton and Roderick; great-nephews, Derrick Jr. (Sanya), Terrence (Cozetta), Edward Michael, Michael (Angie), Steven, James Jr., and Keith (Velda); and great-nieces, Derricka, Kori (Walter), and Kametria.Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lucy; sisters, Louise and Willie Ruth; and brothers, James, Anderson, and Edward. She will always be missed but never forgotten... May she Rest in Peace.
