James Wallace, Jr., known as Jr., Rabbit, and Dude, was born September 25, 1948 in Birmingham, Alabama. In his early years, he joined Mount Hebron Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor T.L. Fisher. He was educated in the Birmingham City Schools. He graduated from Jackson Olin High School in 1966. He worked at the Republic Steel plant for many years. He joined the United States Army in 1972. He served in the Vietnam War. He also served in Korea and Germany. He received an honorable discharge in 1976.He was married to the late Deborah Wheeler. To this union, one son was born, Darrell Wheeler.On Sunday, July 28, 2019, he rededicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. On Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at 2:00 PM, he received his wings to go home. He was preceded in death by: father, James Wallace Wheeler, Sr.; mother, Mountyette Wheeler; both grandparents; and three sisters. He leaves to cherish: a loving sister and caregiver, Teresa Trammer (George); Terri Odister of Detroit, MI; two brothers, Edward Wheeler (Shirley) of Colorado Springs and Clark Odister of Detroit MI; a special brother, Mr. Key Ford of Birmingham, AL; sons, Darrell D. Wheeler of Phoenix, AZ, Fredrick Murray, and Derrick; daughter, Lisa Murray of Birmingham, AL; five grandchildren, Ashley Peoples, Darrell Wheeler, Jr., Isaiah Wheeler, and Amber, all of Atlanta, GA and Logan Wheeler of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces and great-nieces as well as nephews and great-nephews; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
