James Arrington,Jr. was born on March 8, 1930, in
Fairfield, Alabama to the late James and Lula Arrington. He
matriculated through the Fairfield School System and accepted
Christ at an early age, becoming a lifelong member of Holy Family
Catholic Church in Ensley.
In 1951, James proudly answered the call to serve his country and
enlisted in the United States Army. He graduated as a qualified
parachutist in 1952 and served with distinction as a paratrooper.
His military service, which concluded with an honorable discharge
on March 20, 1960, was marked by courage, duty, and an
unwavering commitment to protecting the freedoms of others.
Blessed with extraordinary craftsmanship and a love for working
with his hands, James mastered the art of upholstery. For over 50
years, he lovingly restored treasured family heirlooms, reviving their
beauty and function. His dedication to detail and pride in his work
left a lasting legacy in homes across the community. Each piece he
restored was treated with the care of a master artisan—refined,
patient, and purpose-driven.
Affectionately known as “Junior,” James was a family man, a gentle
giant who didn’t meet a stranger and never knew how to say, “No”.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Marlon A. Arrington, Jr.,
along with his parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
On the peaceful morning of Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 9
o’clock, James transitioned into eternal rest. He leaves to cherish his
memory: his beloved wife of 65 years, Eugenia S. Arrington; three
sons: Michael Shorter (Faye), Reginald Arrington (Mary), and
Marlon Arnez Arrington; one daughter: Barbara Tripp Feagin; ten
grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, a host of nieces,
nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
James Arrington, Jr. will be remembered as a man of faith, honor,
service, and skill - a legacy built on love, excellence, and resilience.
