Frank Mickens Obituary

Frank Edward Mickens was born on April 15, 1965, to the late Deacon Payton Mickens and his mother, Johnnie Mae Mickens. He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Payton Mickens. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Avery Baptist Church, where he was a member of the infamous Gospel chorus, The Bibletones. He attended St. Clair County High School, where he was a local legend for his pitching skills on the baseball field. He graduated from St. Clair County High School in 1983.Frank had a dedicated career serving the State of Alabama as a federal correctional officer and was loved and respected byfellow officers and staff, as well as the inmates. He retired from the Department of Corrections in 2015 and developed a love for golf, which took him to places that he had only dreamed of. At Twin Bridges Golf Club, he developed a brotherhood with many and considered them all family. He loved them as much as the game. To the union of Cheryl Jones and Frank Mickens, three children were born: Nakyah Wilson, DeMarcus Jones, and Kelton Mickens. He is survived by his children, Nakyah Wilson (Clay) of Anaheim, Arizona, DeMarcus Jones of Gadsden, Alabama, Alex Looney of Ashville, Alabama, Montarius Mickens of Talladega, Alabama, and Kelton Mickens of Gadsden, Alabama. He loved his grandchildren, Nacaelyn and Cylar Wilson and Ava and Zoey Jones. He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Johnnie Mae Mickens; siblings, Richard Mickens (Amanda) of Margaret, Alabama, Payton Mickens (April) of Odenville, Alabama, and Aretha Mickens-Barnett (Ronnie) of Margaret, Alabama; a love that surpassed the hands of time, Renee Underwood of Pell City, Alabama; nieces and nephews, Dupree Hardrick, Shannon Mickens, Chad Mickens, Kreshala Mickens, Aavory Mickens, Ambria Smith, Jasmine Mickens, and Jayce Mickens; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends whom he loved dearly.
