A time to be born, Elmer Jones was born on April 14, 1944, to the lateElmer Jones, Sr., and Caroline Jones. From his parents, he learned many lifelessons that carried him throughout his lifetime. He grew up in a large familyand learned the importance of loving and protecting his family.A time to live, Elmer confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at anearly age. During his life, he never swayed from this confession and kept Jesusclose to his heart. He joined St. John AME, under the leadership of PastorFannie Brown. Elmer loved his church family and continued his membershipwith Shady Grove until his passing. He received his formal education throughBirmingham City Schools, where graduated from Hooper City High School.Elmer began working at RexAm Beverage Can Company in January of1968. He retired after 37 years of service from RexAm. He was proud of hisaccomplishments at RexAm and would often bring home rare trinkets toshare with his family.Elmer met the love of his life, Rita Ann Williams, and the two would share alove story that spanned over five decades. They were married on July 21, 1962,and together they had six children, Merry, Veresa, Darrell, Carole, Chris, andRoderick. Elmer and Rita enjoyed spending time together, gardening, andtraveling. Elmer and Rita were inseparable, and on the rare occasions whenthey were apart, Elmer would never leave the house without his goodbye kissfrom Rita.Elmer valued the importance of family and faith and loved his wife and childrenwith all of his heart. He always protected his children and demonstrated tothem how to be a good and loving husband and father. When his children orgrandkids accomplished a goal or gave him a gift from their heart, he wouldoften shed a tear of gratitude in knowing he had done something right.A time to die, Elmer transitioned to his heavenly home to rest with isSavior in the early morning of November 30, 2020. He was preceded in deathby his parents, Elmer Jones, Sr., and Caroline Jones; son, Chris Jones; brother,Charles Jones; sisters, Eleanor Cunningham and Emojean Williams; and onebrother-in-law, Clarence Williams, Sr.Elmer's memory will always be cherished by his wife of 58 years, Rita AnnJones; children, Merry (John) White, Veresa Jones, Darrell (Daphne) Jones,Roderick Jones, and adopted son, Patrick Hamilton; brother, Roland (Rachel)Jones of Centerpoint, AL; sisters, Shirley (James) Anderson and Bernice(Carlton) Roden, all of Pinson, AL; three sisters-in-law, Annie Williams,Lillie Williams, and Rose (John) Burrow, all of Pinson, AL. Elmer wasextremely proud to be called "Granddad" by his ten grandchildren and sixgreat-grandchildren. He leaves a host of nephews and nieces who shared aspecial relationship and bond with their uncle that will never be broken.Elmer also shared two lifelong friendships that were very special to him. Hisfriendships with Clyde Dykes and Clifford Spurling lasted more than 50years. Although Clyde is no longer with us, Clifford will continue Elmer'slegacy
