Douglas Delmore Thompson was born in the West Blocton Community on March 1, 1957, to the late Ida Mae Thompson. He was the eighth of eight children. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and joined Union Missionary Baptist Church after returning home, where he served as a faithful, dedicated, and humble member. He served on the Usher Board until his health failed. During his illness he supported his church until his departure. After a lengthy illness, he departed this life October 20, 2025. He was a military veteran. He was united in marriage to the late Sandra Ella Powell.

He leaves a legacy of fond memories to his loving children, Pamela, Cathy, Peter, and Cedric Powell; seven grandchildren, Antwanisha, Anthony Jr., Joshua, Alyssa, Penelope, Ga’Niyia, and Abigail; one sister, Carolyn Thompson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.
