It was April 1 but the birth of Dorothy Johnson was not a prank. Frank and Sallie Mae Johnson welcomed their fourth and final baby girl on this special day. Born in Dallas County, AL, but raised in Birmingham, Dorothy, or "Doll Lee" as she was affectionately called, attended Birmingham Public Schools and graduated early from Ullman High School. She was nurtured spiritually at Bethel Baptist Church. Our precious mother passed away on October 5, 2021. Doll Lee was a huge fan of her "stories" as she called them and could even be called a soap opera fanatic. At some point, she probably watched them all. She loved to travel and never hesitated to hit the road to visit her family. She loved the water and enjoyed peaceful reflection at the Marina. Listening to Mahalia Jackson and reading her Bible is where she found comfort. She was a huge fan of conversation and could talk on the phone for hours. She was always the most excited when talking with her family and enjoying conversations with those she loved. As an attentive mother of four girls, Doll Lee was very stylish and always made sure her girls were on point with their appearance. She loved to shop and was not shy about returning items that did not meet her expectations. Her cooking skills were legendary and she maintained an immaculate home. Her laugh was infectious and her excited exclamations usually made you laugh too. Doll Lee leaves to cherish her memory, 3 daughters (1 daughter, Lesley Johnson, preceded her in death), Lisa (Will) Johnson-Edwards of Hartsville, SC, Latrice (Tim) Morrow of Wyandanch, NY and Joy Monroe of Norcross, GA; one brother, Frank Johnson, Jr (3 sisters preceded her in death, Lula Mae Kent, Ruthie Lee Lykes and Georgia Mae Cullum); ten grandchildren (1 preceded her in death, John), James Tahsheem (Peanut), Jackie, Joy, Jackie, Jamal, Jason, Curtrice (Little Lesley), Timothy Jr (TJ) and Zephaniah; six great grandchildren, Cameron, Keshaun, Journi, Jackie, Skylar and Luca; a special adoring niece, Janice Brooks: a nephew/son, Harold Johnson Jr; her best friend Ms. Jean and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
