Doris Threadgill Obituary

Mrs. Doris Jean Threadgill received her call to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at 8:41 PM. After being sick for many years, her transition to a better place was verypeaceful. She was born August 22, 1938, to the late Lucy Townsend and James Burce. Doris's mother passed away when she was a young child, but God put two angels in her pathway. The late Wilbert and Eunice "Moony" Roden adopted her and raised her as their own.Later, Doris conceived a son at an early age who she could not raise on her own. Her adoptive parents stepped in to help her raise him. She later moved to New York City, where she was employed as a housekeeper at the Regency Hotel, where she retired.Doris was married to Arthur Threadgill for over 60 years. Doris's dream was to always move back to her hometown to be near her son, grandchildren, family, and friends. After retirement, her dream came true. She moved next door to her only son. Doris was an active member at Rush Temple AME Zion, New York City. She later joined Shady Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of her son, Pastor Carlton Roden. She was humbled and very supportive, serving under her son. She was one of his biggest supporters. She was always ready to go whenever he had an engagement. She would be the first in the car.She was preceded in death by her brother, Mack Henry who lived in Detroit, Michigan. Those she left to cherish her memories are her husband, Arthur Threadgill; brother, Eugene Burce; son, Pastor Carlton (Bernice) Roden; three granddaughters, Carlene (Kenneth) Roden, Lorinda (Cedric) McIntyre, and Britney (David) Craig; five greatgrandchildren, Ebonee, Micah, Colton, Chloie, and Nehemiah; two special cousins who were like sisters, Barbara Hudson of New York and Earnestine Jackson of Warrior, Alabama; special nieces who were always there to lend a helping hand, Jeanette Brown, Pam Threadgill, and Cynthia Smith; best friend, Evelyn Houser of New York City; and a host of relatives and friends.
