Curtis E. McCaslin was born September 30, 1937, in Birmingham, Alabama to Rev. Andrew and Mrs.
Annie McCaslin. He attended Westfield High School, was inducted into the military in 1961, and after honorable discharge
in 1963 moved to Chicago, Illinois. He retired from his position as Assistant Alderman of the 21st Ward in Chicago before returning to
Alabama in 1999. He later became a faithful servant member of St. John AME Church in Birmingham,
AL. Curtis took his wings and departed this life on Monday, January 20, 2025. He is preceded in death by his
loving wife, Ella McCaslin; father and mother; and several siblings.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two children, Michael Askew (Brenda) of Lilburn, GA, and Angela
Powell (Julius) of Birmingham, AL; four grandchildren, Brandon, Brian, Daniel, and Brittany; one great-
granddaughter, Khaleesi; three sisters, Annie Hargraves, Eleanor Gray, Eloise Butler; and a host of
nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
