Clementine Koen Obituary

Mrs. Clementine Anthonette Koen was born on June 2, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio to the proud parents of Reverend Thomas and Myrtle Shearer.

She transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Princeton Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama surrounded by her family.

She attended Shaw High School in Cleveland, Ohio and went on to pursue a higher education at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where she courageously joined a historic civil rights student protest that became known as the OSU 34. In recognition of her role, she was inducted into the Office of Inclusion and Diversity’s Hall of Fame.

In 1969, Clementine was united in holy matrimony to Sgt. John Wesley Koen, Jr. Together, they shared a bond of love and faith until his passing in 1971. Clementine became the proud mother of four children.

Clementine was a devoted and faithful servant, both in her work and in her walk with the Lord. She served many years with the United States Postal Service, where she worked diligently until her retirement.

She confessed Christ at an early age: and throughout her life, Clementine was known for her unwavering faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a prayer warrior, a woman of virtue, and a shining example of faith, hope, and love. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a master seamstress, her treasured collection of praying hands, and her steadfast belief in the power of prayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Thomas and Myrtle Shearer; her beloved husband, Sgt. John Wesley Koen, Jr.; and her daughter, Angela Louise Koen.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: two daughters, Camille (Atlanta, GA), Crystal (Birmingham, AL), and one son, Thomas (Birmingham, AL);  "Grammie" had 9 loving grandchildren Raven, Bria, Saraih, Rebekah,  Ricquel, Hatari, Rachel, Joshua and Roxanne; six great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
