Clara Annette Smiley was born on December 25, 1950, in Blount County to the late Reverend Curtis J. and Rosie B. Smiley. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hayden, Alabama. She was educated in the Blount County school system, and was a graduate of Hayden High School with the class of 1968. She dutifully served the community for decades as an insurance writer for Alfa Insurance and as a Sales Manager at Sears. She was an active member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she played the piano and organ until her health began to fail. She was also the musician for the Smiley Sisters Singing Quartet, and used her musical talents in numerous community events. Her niece Teresa will continue to carry the legacy of the quartet as the only remaining member.
Ms. Clara Smiley entered eternal rest at her home surrounded by loved ones on February 8, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Curtis J. Smiley and Rosie B. Smiley; sisters, Jo Ann Williams, Rosa Lee Smiley, and Annie B. Smiley; brothers, Oliver C. Smiley, Cooper C. Smiley, and Jerrias (Jerry) Smiley.
Her memory and legacy will be cherished by: her caregivers and nieces, Angela R. (Daryl) Byrd, Destinee L. Byrd, and Teresa A. Smiley; sisters, Frankie D. Tompkins of Birmingham, AL, and Laura M. Turner of Kempner, TX; one loving brother, MacArthur (Icola) Smiley of Hayden, AL; one loving family pet named Jack; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
