Bishop Dr. Elvis May was the sixth child of twelve born to the late Sam May, Sr., and Annie C. May on May 28, 1957, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, SamMay, Sr., his sister, Betty Palmer, and his brother, Sam May, Jr. He received his formal education at Scott Elementary School and Western Olin High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at Lawson State Community College. He received a Master of Artsin Theology and a Doctor of Theology degree, both from Carolina University. He went on to get his Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Education from Southwest Bible College & Seminary.At the age of nineteen, Bishop Elvis May received the Holy Ghost one Friday night under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Grover Smith, as the late Elder Cato Lee was ministering. He served untiringly in the church under Bishop Grover Smith. On February 7, 1982, he startedhis journey as pastor of Pratt City A.O.H. Church of God. Even from the beginning, some said that the church would be nothing. However, he believed in accepting the pastoral leadership of his home church as a way to serve the church that he loved so dearly. God gave himthe motto: "A Growing Church with a Vision". In 1997, he began renovating Pratt City A.O.H., which soon became Greater Pratt City A.O.H.On June 27, 1981, he married his wife, Doris May, of Birmingham, Alabama, at her parents' home, under the officiating of the late Bishop T. L. Jones, Sr. To this union, three children were born, Joshua, Jacob, and Priscilla.Bishop Elvis May had a great passion for seeing lost souls saved. He desired for God's Word to reach the hearts of many. On September 27, 1992, God led him to start a radio broadcast with radio station WAYE. The name of the broadcast was "Victory in Jesus". Soon after, he began a second broadcast on WDJC called "Changing Times". Bishop Elvis May desired to expand the reach of the gospel through a television ministry, which began on April 24, 2002. Finally, on July 4, 2004, God led Bishop Elvis May to start the present Apostolic Way Holy Church of the True and Living God, Inc., where he served as the founder and bishop.He departed this life on June 21, 2021, at his home, with his wife at his bedside.He leaves to cherish his legacy, a loving wife of 40 years minus six days, Overseer Doris May; three children, Joshua (Valerie) May, Sr., Jacob (Angel) May, I, and Priscilla May; four grandsons, Malachi, Jacob II, Israel, and Joshua Jr.; his mother, Annie C. May; five sisters,Jackie (Reverend James) Gibson, Inthia Hunter, Evangelist Earlene Green, Wanda (Ross) Sheffield, and Barbara (Bobby) Humphrey; four brothers, Earl (Shaun) May, Anthony (Angela) May, Kenneth May, and Reginald (Bronical) May; aunts and uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; the Apostolic Way Church of theLiving God, Inc.; and God-children and the Apostolic Way Church family.
