Archeleen Clay was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Archie Scrutchings and Rosetta Perkins on October 18, 1927. She married Fred Clay on January 21, 1948, and through that union raised three children, Fred Jr., Linda Susan, and Rahn Thomas.A devout Catholic, Archeleen dedicated her time to serving her church communities of Saint Mary's and Holy Family, and was influential in her husband's conversion to Catholicism. Together Archeleen and Fred worked tirelessly in the church as members of the Sodality and Holy Name Society respectively. Archeleen was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who enjoyed cooking and baking as an expression of love. To the delight of her family, Archeleen remembered the lyrics to countless songs and would dance her way around the kitchen after dinner. After losing the love of her life, Archeleen found love again with Edward Gragg, a widower and one of her best friends. They talked every morning and every night, shared most of their meals together, attended special dinner/dance celebrations, and family gatherings. On the morning of March 18, 2021, Archeleen passed away peacefully at the age of 93. She was full of kindness and warmth until the day she passed. She leaves to mourn: two children, Linda (Houston) of Washington, DC, Rahn (Brenda) of Johns Creek, Georgia; four grandchildren, Ronald, Alex, Joy, and Andrea; five great-grandchildren, and numerous family and friends. Archeleen was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Clay, Sr., her son Fred Clay, Jr., her sister Dorothy Nix, and brothers Willie and Joseph Perkins. Her vibrant spirit will be forever cherished by those who knew her.
