Anthony Akins Obituary

Anthony “Tony” Akins, affectionately known as "Dr. Ice," was born on August 12, 1961, in
Birmingham, Alabama, to the late George Scott and Dorothy Jean Akins. On Thursday,
September 26, 2024, Tony transitioned peacefully into the arms of his Heavenly Father. He was
a man of faith, love, and passion, whose life touched the hearts of many.

Tony grew up in Birmingham, where he attended the Birmingham Public School System. From
an early age, he showed a deep thirst for knowledge and a commitment to excellence in all he
pursued. He was known for his bright smile, eager spirit, and love for learning.

A dedicated and active member of Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church ACIPCO, Tony wore
many hats as he served his church family faithfully. Whether as Director of the Security
Ministry, a leader in the Media/Sound Ministry, a creative force in the Drama/Film Ministry, or a
supporter in the Singles and Married Couples Ministries, Tony’s servant heart was always at the
forefront. His love for his church and his desire to uplift others were evident in everything he
did. Tony was most recently employed with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department as a
Bailiff where he served with great pride and joy!

Outside of church, Tony’s passion for music shone brightly. As a DJ, he created unforgettable
memories for many and shared his love of music with the world through his very own Dr. Ice
Radio Show on Blogtalk Radio. Music wasn’t just a pastime for Tony; it was a calling, a way to
connect with others, and a source of joy that he gladly shared with everyone he encountered.
More than his titles and talents, Tony will be remembered for his kind spirit and the way he
touched people’s lives. He was a true friend, always there with a word of encouragement, a
smile, or a helping hand. His infectious personality and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on
everyone blessed to know him.

Most importantly, Tony was a proud child of the Most- High King. His love for the Lord was the
foundation of his life, and it guided him through every challenge, success, and moment in
between. Now, he rests in eternal peace with his Savior, his legacy of faith, love, and service
enduring in the hearts of all who loved him.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, George Scott and Dorothy Jean Akins, grandparents,
