Annie Bell Smiley was born on June 11, 1948, in Blount County to the late Rev. Curtis J. and Rosie B. Smiley.
She confessed hope in Christ at an early age, and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in Hayden, AL. She was educated in the Blount County school system and was a graduate of Clevit High School, Class of 1965. She was a retired teacher with the
Blount County school system, having taught for 35 years. She was a graduate of UAB, and held a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a Master of Art in Education, and an Education Specialist degree.
She was an active member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she served many roles. She was founder and manager of the Smiley Sisters Singing Quartet. She was remarkable throughout her life, taking an active and beloved role in her
family, community, school, and church until the day of her death. Annie entered her eternal rest at her home surrounded by her loved ones on August 24, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rev. Curtis J. Smiley and Rosie B. Smiley; sisters Jo’Ann Williams and Rosa Lee Smiley; brothers Oliver Smiley, Cooper C. Smiley, and Jerrias (Jerry) Smiley.
Her memories and legacy will be cherished by her 2 “daughters”; Teresa A. Smiley of Prattville, Alabama; Angela R. (Min. Daryl) Byrd of Florence, Alabama; One “granddaughter”; Destinee L. Byrd of Florence, Alabama; Sisters, Frankie Tompkins of Birmingham, Laura M. Turner of Kempner, Texas, and Clara A. Smiley of Hayden, Alabama; one loving brother; MacArthur (Icola) Smiley of Hayden, Alabama; and one loving furry companion named Jack, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
