Earline Goldson Atkins

Life Legacy


Earline Goldson Atkins was born on December 22, 1923 in Jefferson County, Alabama to the late Neil and Julia Goldson. She was one of eleven children.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined the First Baptist Church of Booker Heights.

Earline was educated in the Jefferson County School System, graduating from Westfield High School, Class of '45. She attended and graduated from the Birmingham Baptist Bible College where she served as Secretary of the Alumni Association for twenty-seven years. Earline also received training as a nurse and a musician.

She was employed as an Insurance Agent for the Bradford Insurance Company.

Over the course of her lifetime, Earline was "Worthy Matron" of the Order of Eastern Stars, Sunlight Chapter 246, Chairman of the Mount Pilgrim Fellowship Committee, member of the Devotional Committee and Class Secretary for the Mount Pilgrim Congress of Christian Education. At her home church, Earline was President of the Choir, President of the Missions and Teacher of the Women's Bible Class.

She recevied as recognition for her services the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Birmingham area YMCA in 2007, and the Outstanding Service Award from the Easonian Baptist Bible College.

On October 5, 1942, Earline was united in holy matrimony to Damon Willis Atkins. To this union was born a son, Damon Jacob Atkins, who preceded her in death.

Earline G. Atkins departed this life on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, and leaves to mourn her passing: a loving and devoted husband, Damon W. Atkins; a daughter-in-law, Doris Walker Atkins of Birmingham, Alabama; grandsons, Damon W. (Tomiko) Atkins of Kennesaw, Georgia, Brian C. (Kimberly) Atkins of Cincinnatti, Ohio, Sean N. Atkins of Montgomery, Alabama and Adrian Hill of Birmingham, Alabama; sister, Hazel G. Wilson of Mulga, Alabama; great grand-children, Damon, Jaleel, Amanda, Christina, Brian, Jordan, Gabriel, Briana and Noa Leigh Atkins; a favorite niece, Janet Berry of Detroit, Michigan, and a host of nieces and nephews.
