Earskine Marshall Obituary

Earskine “Cat Daddy” Marshall was born on August 2, 1944, to the late Otis and Fannie Pearl Marshall in Westfield, Alabama. He was the fifth of ten children.
Earskine completed his education at Westfield High School, then elisted in the United States Army after graduation. He served his country through the War in Vietnam. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Shooter M-14 and two Overseas Bars.

Earskine loved his church family and remained a member until he transitioned. He was the Sunday School Superintendent, Van Driver, Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, and Trustee Ministry.

On March 18, 2000, Earskine married Betty “his young wife” (Colston) Marshall. Together they learned to lean on Jesus. They loved, lived, and laughed.

Earskine worked at the Concord Coal Mine, transferred and retired from Oakgrove Coal Mine. Following retirement, he continued to work at Oak Mountain High School and McAdory High School. He was a mentor for the community and was loved and respected by many. He believed in doing the work.He enjoyed spending time at J and J Grocery and Deli. Earskine was also known as Chief. He had a burger named after him, Chief Burger.

Earskine departed this life on Monday, March 25, 2024 and leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife and caregiver, Betty Marshall; two loving children, Dora (Mike) Fitts and Fred Pearson; four amazing grandchildren, Natalia, Ava, Skylar, and Sir Michael Fitts, all of Bessemer, Alabama; siblings, Jeanette, Odis, Pearl, Anthony, Fred, and Marvin (Patricia), all of Dolomite; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends; in-laws, Chester, Emmett (Deborah) Colston of Birmingham, Alabama, and Valerie Willis of Odenton, Maryland.
